"Citizens are advised to remain inside with doors and windows firmly shut," the television news was advising. "Move to the highest floor of the house - an attic if possible. If you have a single floor home with no attic, then maintain extra vigilance. If any of the material begins to seep into your home, seek refuge on countertops or other solid furniture.

"Authorities are advising against moving to the roofs of houses, as some residents have been doing. There is a concern of people falling off into the spill. Further, by being outdoors you increase your exposure to fumes."'

The television signal cut out as the green goo seeping into the house reached the level of the electrical outlets. Angie wiped her bloodshot eyes and climbed the stairs to the second floor. She'd been sitting on the bottom step since the tv downstairs got better reception, but now seemed like a good time to move up.

The chemical leak had spilled into her house through the sliding glass doors on the patio. She hadn't realized that the spill had gotten so close to her house until she came downstairs and saw all the smoke from the carpet dissolving. Not knowing what else to do, she tried piling her dining room chairs in front of the ooze, but that only slowed it down slightly.

Stay indoors my ass. Perfectly safe my ass. Don't try to get away my ass. She muttered to herself as she tromped up the stairs, still rubbing her eyes. Out the bedroom window was nothing but a sea of goo covering her lawn, the street, her neighbors houses. Fumes were clearly rising out of it.

Flipping on the television, Angie plopped on the bed and looked at the neighborhood as the news anchor chattered away in the background about the dangers of going outside. They were replaying the footage of the van stranded in the goop with the father's half dissolved corpse hanging out the driver's window and the barely visible children floating around inside. That image was what kept most people inside, hoping that their homes would protect them.

Unfortunately, whatever had leaked out of the burst chemical tanks had proven to be quite corrosive and was slowly eating through everything in its path. Angie knew it was only a matter of time until her house collapsed from all of the damage. She had already seen four trees collapse into the ever rising ooze. There had been some scientist on earlier explaining how the stuff would react with various organic molecules to increase in size, but she didn't really pay much attention. She waved to her neighbor that was futilely spraying the stuff surrounding his house with a hose.

She turned back to the television, but only saw a few more seconds before the walls of the house finally gave in and collapsed in on her.
